The Martial Arts Career of Grandmaster Cameron
I
started my career in the Martial Arts under the training of
Sensei Thomas Short and trained with him for a decade
spanning 1981-1991. The schools that Sensei Short opened in
Indianapolis were called the School of the Red Dragon, of
which there were two locations. One was on South Belmont and
the other was on High School Road, both on the West side of
Indianapolis. In order to spend more time training with
Sensei’s top four students, of which I was one, Sensei Short
built a three-car garage for us to train in on the empty
house lot right next door to his house on Coffey Street.
This saved time as we did not have to drive to the schools
in order to train. Also, we could go out into the school
next to the house and train whenever we wanted. This also
helped in keeping down the boredom of being only in the
environment of the other schools so that we could train
better. Sensei Short trained with Sensei Dan O‘Nan who was
with the Juko-Kai federation himself. Sensei Short trained
with Sensei O’Nan for seven years. In 1981, Sensei Short
became a personal student to Dr. Sacharnoski and worked out
and trained with Soke Thomas Burdine of Lafayette,
Indiana.
After my training with Sensei Thomas Short ended in
1991, I moved to Lafayette, Indiana, to take over the
management of a health club called the International Health
and Fitness Center, still owned today by Mr. Paul
Fortwendel, now operating under the name International
Sports Clubs. I began a small martial arts class in the
aerobics room of the center. A student heard me speak about
Dr. Sacharnoski and said he knew the name from another
Instructor he trained with there in the city. He gave me the
number and I called the Soke named Dan Pate. He was a Soke
under Dr. Sacharnoski but had trained for almost 15 years
with Soke Burdine as he was a lifelong resident of
Lafayette, Indiana, as well. I trained personally with Soke
Pate for five years. He was a great friend and a great
Martial Artist. I have fallen completely out of touch with
him over the years.
In
1996, I open my own martial arts school in Corpus Christi,
Texas, called the Universal Kempo and Jujitsu School that
was on Air Line Road. The school was very successful. After
two years I moved to San Antonio, Texas, and on Bandera
Road, I opened another Universal Kempo and Jujitsu School.
Creotology was becoming an even larger conceptualization and
I needed to concentrate on the personal development side of
things so I sold the schools and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada,
in the year 2000, and have been here ever since. Since 1996
I have went to many seminars of other Martial Arts and
learned new skills. I attended numerous workshops of
self-help and spirituality. Including my own personal
retreats for reflection and testing of Creotology Mental
Techniques.
In
2003, I was contacted by Soke Edward Badhing of the Eastern
U.S.A. International Martial Arts Association. He advised me
of their desire to extend me a membership into their
Federation. After thoroughly checking them out and speaking
with Soke Kanzler, I accepted their offer. Subsequent to my
time spent with Soke Kanzler, I petitioned the Board for my
own Sokeship in Kempo-Jujitsu. The Board agreed by awarding
me a probationary Sokeship in Kempo-Jujitsu. After the
two-year period, I was given Full International Status with
their Federation as Soke of my own Federation and Art. It
has been seven years now and I am presently still with Soke
Kanzler and plan to be for life as they are an outstanding
Martial Arts Federation and a first class act.
